Thomas Michael Fantry , MVPD ESU, EMT-P
Thomas was born and raised in Park Ridge, NJ. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, and proudly served his country in the 82nd Airborne Division and had more than 48 jumps as a paratrooper. After serving his Country, Thomas returned home, trained as an Emergency Medical Technician and because of his love for helping people and belief in public service, he went on to enroll in the Paramedic program at Nyack Hospital, Nyack, NY. He graduated from that program in 1993 –the final class to graduate from that program. He enjoyed many years as a paramedic and as a preceptor and mentor to many student medics and “newbies”. He began his paramedic career working for Hudson Valley Ambulance and went on to work for RPS, EHMC, HolyNameHospital and JCMC to name a few. If you worked with Tom, you worked with a guy who had a quick wit, loved to laugh but was skilled at taking command of a scene and saving lives. He became a member of Alert Hook and Ladder Fire Department in Congers, NY and in 2000 began a new chapter in his life, becoming a police officer with the Mount Vernon Police Department. In 2003 Tom and his wife welcomed identical twin boys into their lives. Earlier in 2003, Tom was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and sadly lost his battle to cancer in 2004. Tom was promoted to the ESU unit of the MVPD, an achievement he had been working towards prior to his illness. He enjoyed the outdoors, his family, training and participating in triathlons but some of his deepest loves were helping people and the friendships he created through his years working as a paramedic.
